Why Do Women’s Groups Need This Training?
The world is constantly changing for women, and at the same time it has stayed much
the same. There may be more women in the labor force today than there were a
generation ago, but around the globe women still make less to the dollar than men doing
the same work. Domestic violence affects 1 in 4 women in the United States, and costs
American businesses $3 billion each year. Apart from two Nordic countries, women
throughout the globe hold substantially fewer political positions than men, and remain in
many countries, the undesired gender. History shows us the first step to bringing change
in our homes, families, communities, work lives, and in politics is to join together. There
is great power in numbers, but numbers alone do not bring change. As women we also
need the tools to make change and negotiate for what we want and deserve without
giving in.
Elisa Levy’s trainings for women’s groups run the gamut from seminars on gender-based
violence prevention to self esteem, and conflict resolution skills. She focuses directly on
your needs and prepares a workbook and training that is designed to help you learn new
skills and achieve your goals individually and as a group. After each training Levy follows
up with your organization for 3 months to help you put the skills you’ve learned into
practice.

Why Choose Elisa Levy for Your Training?
For the past decade Elisa Levy has been working with women and writing about women’s
rights. Her work ranges from conflict resolution training for women’s political groups in
the Former Soviet Union to hands on advocacy with survivors of domestic and sexual
violence for a domestic abuse shelter in the United States. Levy currently conducts
seminars on conflict management skills for women in cities throughout the country.
Levy is passionate about stopping violence against women, and her writing is testimony
to that. She began publishing her work in 1995, when she authored a booklet called
Women Hold Up Half the Sky on gender based violence prevention in Moldova.
The booklet features the country’s first national conference on family violence. Levy was
one of the conference organizers. The results led to the first legislative changes in the
post-Soviet era that protect survivors of violence.
In the year 2000, Levy co-authored her first book, With an End in Sight. The book
explores grassroots efforts to stop violence against women and girls in 7 countries
around the world, and was published by the United Nations. She received an award from
Columbia University that same year for her research and writing. In 2003, Levy authored
a training manual for educators on domestic and sexual violence. The manual has been
distributed to non profit organizations.
